Kim Delaney is an American actress who is best known for playing Detective Diane Russell in ABCs series NYPD Blue for which she won the Emmy Award. Her other credits include her roles in the drama series All My Children Philly CSI: Miami and Army Wives. Delaney is the daughter of an executive in the United Auto Workers who was also the mother of her children. Delaney has four older brothers. As a child she longed to be a court reporter. However, after graduating from high school and relocating into New York in the 1980s then she started modeling. Her first role acting was when she was a young, innocent girl in the soap opera All My Children. Since then Delaney has been featured in many film and television dramas. Similar to her profession however, her private life has not been easy or prosperous. There were two unsuccessful marriages and struggled with addiction issues. She was divorced in 2005 and was denied custody of the sole child she was born with.
